Genève, Switzerland: Ecart, 1977. 14,4x10,6 cm.
Set of two exhibition invitation cards presenting De Filippi as Lenin at the initial and the final stage of transformation. In an interesting and radical take on performance [Sostituzione] and make-up use, Fernando De Filippi appropriates Lenin’s identity. After his Lenin hyperrealistic portraits of 1971-72, he transcribes Lenin’s manuscripts using Lenin’s handwriting [sic] and goes on to physically transform himself, while thoroughly documenting the process, into Lenin.
This set is a conceptual work in itself. Fine.
