Unique artist's book. The most personal of artist books collecting fragments of memories on minuscule silver gelatin photos. Photos pasted on each page above facsimile handwritten notes. This is the only artist book made by Gina Pane. It was conceived and realized at a crucial point of her career when she started exploring in a more structured manner the tropisms of being a woman while embarking on a journey of self-discovery through self inflicted pain and suffering. The book toys with the notions of silence and muted memories through the use of photography echoing the use of documentation for Pane’s extreme actions and performances, almost always very intimate in vivo - in front of a small or non existent audiences - and communicated after the fact through the photographic lens. Unique not numbered copy - out of a planned edition of 100 - signed and dedicated on the front page by Pane to - presumably - the artist ‘Sef Peeters’ which was briefly involved with performance art in the later half of the 1970s. Extremely scarce.
